THE LEGEND OF SLEEPING BEAUTY

THE LEGEND OF SLEEPING BEAUTY

Wada nan istoryan di esa ay babae ay nan balin sii maymayat ay bilig et sinay san sleeping beauty of Kalinga. (These was the story about a young lady who transform into a beautiful mountain known as sleeping beauty mountain.)San nagan dinnay et Lunggunawan sinan tribon di Dacalan,Tanudan. Wada metlang nan nakisig ay Tinglayan warrior ay man nagan si Binsay ay men ininap si asawa na. (These young beautiful maiden named “laggunawa” from the tribe of Dacalan, Tanudan. There was also a brave Tinglayan warrior named Binsay who is searching for a wife.)

(One day Binsay though that he must have a wife, but there was no available woman in his village. So he went out of his village, towards MT. Potukan to the east in search of wife.) (Binsay walked on, and it was still daylight when he saw below him the village of Dacalan, Tanudan from a distance. He rested first for while and for night time to come, because dacalan people might see him and think that he was an approaching enemy. He lied under the shade of a big tree and waited the dark to come.)

Idi anggay nalabi inmey sisya isnan ili ta ilana no wada di balasang ay mabalin ay asawa ena idi bumaybayag wada nan nadngena ay kanta ay “ulalim” ay magapgapo sinan babae ay kumakanta.Inmasideg sisya et madngena ay magapo sinan esang ay kubo. Inilana isnan bassit ay abot et nailana san napintapintas ay babae ay edwani na lang ay maila ya kamayatan di kanta na ay nadngena.(When night time came, Binsay went towards the village so he could easily see if there was a woman there whom he could marry, not long after Binsay heard a sweet melody on an “ullalim” from a female singer. He then went closer to the sound and saw that it was coming from inside a native hut, he peeped at a small opening and saw the most beautiful woman his eyes had ever seen, and the most beautiful female singing voice he had ever heard.)

Bigla ay ginminek si Binsay sin tinmayakdegana.Kanana no naanapana san babae ay para en sisya .Sunga tinoktok na san wangan ay naamag di kawayan habang ibagbagana ay “wadan ipugaw isnan?”Ginminek san mankankanta et bigla ay wadan nakali isnan baey ay kubo”Sino Sa?”si linmiliget ay boses Binsay froze where he stood. (He thought he have found the woman of his dreams. So he knocked on the bamboo-made doors of the hut while saying clearly “somebody here!”-Binsay the singing stopped and a voice from inside the hut said, ”who’s there?”in a angry voice.) (The man’s angry voice sayed to him , “what do you need?”)Et danet sumungbat ages si Binsay danet na ibaga ay “ inmali ak ay maid dakes ay iyat ko na diket silalayad ak ay makilaglagsak.”(Then Binsay replied “I am Binsay and I came in peace!”) Et menkali kasin nan amama si naamamma ay boses “Sige galod”.(So….?” Came again the man’s voice, but this time mellowed down”ah ok”)(Inbagan Binsay ay kailangana san napintapintas di kanta na ay babae.(Binsay; “I wish to need the woman with a beautiful singing voice.)

(Binsay then came to know dongdongan, the father of laggunawa.) (Dongdongon do the kalinga tradition, Dongdongan, then offered Binsay drinking water in a coconut-shell bowl. This meant that Binsay was warmly accepted as a visitor and would be safe and secure inside the house of Dongdongan. The Dongdongan offered Binsay a moma without produce spit as red saliva. Afterwards, dongdongan and Binsay began their serious talk and this they did through the “ullalim or chanted song.”)

(Dongdongan introduced Binsay to his beautiful daughter laggunawa, during the handshake, Binsay proposed marriage to laggunawa who, in turn accepted the same.) ( The next day during the marriage celebrations, they played “gangsa” or gong, Binsay and laggunawa did the” salidsid” or courtship dance, the rest of the village did the “tadok” or community dancing and vote witnes to the marriage.)

San tradition anay et no san bindisyon di pamilya isnan man asawa ay man ited si swerte ya adi kapatengga ay ragsak.(While in Dacalan, Binsay was introduced by laggunawa to all her relatives,Then all her relatives give them blessing. This is a tradition which says that the blessing of relatives to a newly-married couple will give them good luck and unending happiness.)Mal-os di ka age-agew da Langgunawa ya Binsay et nan sagana ay kumaan isnan ili ay Dacalan paey isnan MT. Ma awni awni na et naka denge da si ngalawngaw isnan ilin si Binsay.(Day passed and Binsay and laggunawa prepared to leave the village and began their walk towards MT. Potukan, they reached the mountaintop after the 8 hours of walking, as soon as they reached the mountaintop, they suddenly heard unusual noises coming from Binsay’s village.)

Et danet ibagan Binsay isnan asawa na ay sed ena sisya ta amey na ilan san mangmangyari isnan ili da.(Binsay said to his wife, “Stay put her.e and wait for me, I go to our village to see what is happening there,”) Bumaba et sisya et sakto ay maka daton inbagan din kakadwa na ay ma atatak da si kalaban da ay sabali ay tribo. Kanadwa na galod san tribo na et inpapilit da ay manglaban isnan kalaban da ngem subla ay ado ado da sunga inbaga na isnan kadwa na ay esa ay enna ibaga en Langgunawa ay adi sumlasalog isnan bilig.( Binsay run as fast as he could, upon reaching I, he was told that their village was under attack by an enemy tribe. Binsay lead his tribe and fought to the best of his ability but they were outnumbered and lasing the battle. Binsay told on of his men and said “Go and warn Laggunawa not to come down to the village!” )San last ay nailan Binsay sakbay ay matey et san napintapintas ay asawa na. si kalaban.(Binsay’s last vision before his last breath left him was the beautiful face of his wife laggunawa. Nansesed ladta Si Langgunawa isnan toktok di bilig.

Ammon et Langgunawa ay adi man subli si Binsay ay mang ayag ta iyey na sisya isnan ili da.Maawni-awni ed men ayos et nan uga isnan rupan Langgunawa habang mandepag sisya isnan ruot di bilig ay Potukan. Pinati na ladta nan kanan asawa na ay men seed siya anggana ay mamaid angges na.ay si Langgunawa. laggunawa, kept on waiting at the top of mount Potukan. The waiting was no long and it became longer and longer.( Laggunawa then knew that Binsay will never come back to take her home to his village, tears soon flowed on Laggunawa’s face as she lay greatly weakened upon the grass-covered floor of Mount Potukan. She was still courageously trying to follow Binsay’s instructions to “Stay put and wait” until she breathed her last.)Edwani duwa ay man etetdag ay danom san maila isnan lugar ay nanpudanan Langgunawa.

It is said that these were formed from the tears that she sled , and from a distance from Tinglayan, one can still see the shape of the beautiful Laggunawa a top MT. Potukan.)Tet ewa ay sisined nas Binsay ay mansubli.(Truly, forever she still awaits for Binsay to return .)
