Once upon a time, a long summer arrived in kalawitan. The intense heat and lack of food led the community to consider leaving their homes in search of sustenance, among them were a husband and wife, Gatan and Bugan.
Gatan: Nay maid eth makan ay kaen mo (Oh !!! We don’t have enough food to eat.)
Bugan: Wen tet-ewa(You are right.)
Gatan: Nay amin ay kaaruba ta et kinmaan da (Most of are neighbours leave this place.)
Bugan: Nay keg ta abe kumaan mo(. I think we will leave too.)
Gatan: Taynan ta han ili aynay ta enta man-inap si maymayat.( We should leave this place and find better place for us to stay.)
Bugan: kailangan ta ay man-inap si makan ta mabiyag ta( Okay, we need to find food so we will survive.)
Gatan:Ngem, into ngata amyan ta.(But, where we will go.)
Bugan: Anjak ammo(I dont know)
Gatan: Ud isdiT: I think, in that placeBugan: cge( Okay.As days passed by, they stumbled upon a place teeming with life.)
Bugan: Gatan, han ili ay nay eth napno amin si kailangan ta.(: Gatan, this place seems to be full of every thing we need.)
Gatan: Wada ginawang ay pan-alaan ta hi danom ay mainomBugan: Wada dedan abe di madengdeng ken prutas ay makan. (There are also fruits and vegetables for us to eat.)
Gatan: Ud cna eth san mantoodan ta si baey ta(We should build a house here.)
Bugan: Cge(Okay.)
Gatan: Hinay uth han mante-antako (This will be our new home.)
Bugan: Ta hak-en han mamala hi gaon(: I will gather cogon).
Gatan: Ta enak abe man-ala hi kaiw ya tabla(And I will collect wood.)
Together, Gatan and Bugan built a house. As years passed by, they had many children. Then, the family thought of naming their new home..
Gatan: Hino ngata han ipangadan tako sina ( What should we name this place?)
Bugan: Anjak ammo ( I don’t know)
Gatan: Hino ngata( What could it be?)
Bugan: Wada nailak kaya ay damayan ay tinmobo sina ( I’ve noticed many mushrooms grow in this place.)
Gatan: Nay keg maymayat no han ngadan di damayan han ngadana (What if we name this place after the mushrooms.)
Bugan: Sunga han ngadan nay udwani uth Coputan. ( So, the name of this place will be Coputan.)-The place where named after the mushrooms.
